An exciting Key Stage 2 project to explore different types of motion incorporating a complex structure with a variety of cam mechanisms. This project can fit perfectly with any theme or topic within the curriculum as it allows the children to use their wildest imaginations.

Description

Each material pack comes with the following components:

  • Box structure (4 sides) made from MDF
  • Brackets made from jelutong
  • 4mm dowel
  • Bush made from laser cut plywood
  • Handle made from laser cut plywood
  • Stopper made from laser cut plywood
  • Cams made from laser cut plywood (a selection of hexagon, egg shaped, eccentric, ellipse and shell shaped)
  • Follower foot made from laser cut plywood

Step by step instructions will also be provided to help ensure both teacher and child fully understand and maximise this project! Basic card shape templates are also provided to attach to the top of the automaton so you can see the motion in action!

This material pack includes the Hepp DT design portfolio that covers the design, make, evaluate and technical knowledge aspects of the project. Children can also use a variety of embellishments to ‘finish’ their item appropriately (please note, we do not provide embellishments and paint).

To be able to cut the dowel and jelutong to the correct length, you will need junior hacksaws, bench hooks and g-clamps as well as a cordless drill and a 6mm drill piece. If you do not have these tools in school, please select the ‘components pre-cut’ option at checkout.

Each material pack comes with sandpaper and PVA wood adhesive as standard.
