Motorised Buggies


Create a fast moving motorised buggy which combines a frame structure with a series of mechanisms (a pulley system as well as wheels and axles) and an electrical circuit. This project is perfect for upper Key Stage 2 children. Who can make the fastest buggy??!

Each material pack comes with the following components:

  • ‘H’ frame chassis made from redwood
  • Axles made from 4mm dowel
  • MDF wheels
  • Axle brackets
  • Pulleys
  • Motor (to be soldered to battery pack)
  • Battery pack (AA batteries not included)
  • Elastic band
  • Zip ties

This material pack includes the Hepp DT design portfolio that covers the design, make, evaluate and technical knowledge aspects of the project as well as step by step instructions and videos to teach it successfully.

To be able to cut the redwood and dowel to the correct length, you will need junior hacksaws, bench hooks and g-clamps. If you do not have these tools in school, please select the ‘components pre-cut’ option at checkout. As stated above, the motor needs to be soldered to the battery pack. If you do not have a soldering iron and fast melting solder, you can add these items at checkout.

Each material pack comes with sandpaper and PVA wood adhesive as standard.
