Bring renewable energy to life in the classroom! In this hands-on material pack, children build a motorised, free standing windmill and discover how wind can be turned into energy. As the turbines spin, children explore motors, simple circuits and mechanical movement in an engaging, practical way. Designed for KS2, this material pack encourages curiosity, problem-solving and testing ideas, while supporting learning in design, structures and sustainability.
Description
Each resource kit includes:
- MDF frame
- Jelutong brackets
- Redwood block
- Wheel
- Lollipop sticks for turbines
- Dowel
- Pulleys
- Motor (can be soldered to battery pack or can be hooked on instead)
- 9v battery clip (batteries not included)
- Elastic band
- Tie wraps
This resource kit includes the electronic Hepp DT design portfolio that covers the design, make, evaluate and technical knowledge aspects of the project as well as step by step video instructions. Access to these documents will be sent to the email address on the order form. If you require it to be sent to a different email address, please state this in the ‘notes’ section when ordering.
To be able to cut the dowel and jelutong to the correct length, you will need junior hacksaws, bench hooks and g-clamps. If you do not have these tools in school, please select the ‘components pre-cut’ option at checkout. This material pack will require multiple drill holes – if you do not have a cordless drill, select the ‘pre-drilled’ option at the checkout. The motor can be soldered to the battery pack with a soldering iron and fast melting solder, if you choose to do so. Please note – you DO NOT have to solder the motor.
Basic tools such as junior hacksaws, g-clamps, bench hooks and cordless drills, can be bought from our resource shop.
Each resource kit comes with sandpaper and PVA wood adhesive as standard.
